Great for a power user's/IT guy's home UPS July 3, 2010 velcroman I am an IT guy for a living, and at my house i have a early 2008 Macbook Pro, a hand built gaming pc, and a 22inch, 24inch and 26inch LCD monitors, 5.1 speaker system, 3 usb/firewire hard drives, and a Qnap NAS, and an Xbox, and a Gigbit switch. This is almost as good as the $1000+ UPCs I buy for the office. Since I only run with the Mac normally, I can get 89 min out of it. With everything running (full bore on the gaming computer), I can get 15 or so. Enough time to get everything down safely. This is a great UPC for the price.
Ditch your reliance on a name July 1, 2010 Richard A. Scott (Austin, TX United States) I'll admit, I was as liable as anyone with this. You buy a UPS? You get APC. But, this last time, I didn't want to spend the money on the badge simply because I needed a UPS. So, I shopped around a bit. I found a solid deal on this 600W UPS for my home computer and I pulled the trigger. I'm happy I did. The LCD display makes it very esay to see just how much of the UPS I'm using, how long I have left, and everything just feels very intuitive. The only small downside is that the 'power' button is a large, blue button that never, itself, goes off. So, if you're the kind of person who doesn't like a little extra light in a room, it's the only real detractor. And even that is easily camouflaged in a desk setup by turning the UPS towards a wall or desk side.
Electric fire! May 26, 2010 Dr. S. S. New (Dudleyville, Il United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When it arrived the battery claimed to be fully charged. Plugged in some stuff and popped it back on, it started beeping and powering on and off. Removed items one at a time - and then there were none and it stopped beeping and power cycling. At this point the battery showed completely dead. I left it plugged in to charge. Per the manual it should take up to 16 hours to charge, after 20 it was still only at 60%, an hour later it was down to 54%. I unplugged it and there was a flash from inside the unit and it started smoking. So thanks CyberPower, going back to Opti-UPS, I had two units for almost 5 years before their batteries died... and no fire.
Beware! April 27, 2010 Nom De Plume (West Coast Junkie) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
My monitor eventually began making a very loud humming sound after installing the Cyberpower VA1000. Got creeped out after another Cyberpower 850VA, after being installed, I had a printer failure. My brand-new printer had to be replaced.
I don't really know if the UPS is to be blamed on these two incidents, but that is the only thing I had connected up to my setup. Nothing else was changed. I had no problems before.
My "stuff" is all brand-new! Both of these UPS are made in China. So what, lot of stuff is made in China. It's been my experience many times that, they (stuff made in China) have to be replaced several times before you get something that works.
So, maybe I got lemons. Very expensive lemons. But, I can't take a chance on expensive lemons anymore.
Also, ask them to replace the component (monitor, computer, printer, etc.) via their replacement liability policy. Be prepared to get hilarious. You might want to watch a few Don Rickles video to prepare yourself. As they say, you have been WARNED!
Good for those just-in-case times April 26, 2010 Kevin Kessler (Drexel Hill, Pa United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Works fine so far, then again this is also one of those things you don't fully realize their value until it happens and shows off it's stuff. Little dissapointed at the estimated 13 min battery runtime, however my system is fairly mid-high end(my radeon 5850 propalby effecting battery life some) but it's given me no issues and install was easy, even shows how many watts you are pulling..defintely a reccomendation for computer's (or whatever you use it for) safety
