Product Description The CyberPower CP685AVR UPS is the ideal unit for basic to mid-level computer systems. The 685AVR not only guards against surges, spikes, sags, and brownouts, but also protects your computer system and valuable data during a power outage. The Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) monitors incoming AC power and regulates output to a smooth, consistent 120 volts. This model also has full dataline protection: RJ11/RJ45 (phone, fax, Ethernet, network, DSL) and RG-6 coax (DSS, cable modem, satellite, cable TV). PowerPanel PE Power Management supplements the backup/surge protection by monitoring the vitals of the UPS and safely shutting down your system in event of a power outage. The standalone designs allows for vertical, horizontal, or wall mount. "Surge-Only" outlets are perfect for the addition of peripherals such as monitors, printers, scanners, iPods, or CD/DVD players.

Amazing product, probably saved my life. August 2, 2010 Strawgate "In April there was a water main break outside of my house, the water main quickly flooded the pool in the house my family currently lives in. From there it leaked into our basement, which quickly flooded with water. In the basement we had a water detector which did not work when the water flooded in. There was a bedroom in the basement where I myself was sleeping. And on the floor was a CyberPower CP685 AVR battery backup which powered about $3,000 worth of computer equipment at the time((Which was all on a 3 inch platform)). The water quickly rose to about an inch((Which is a lot in a 2200 square foot basement)), the unit stopped feeding power to the computer equipment, started beeping fairly rapidly, with the fan still operating and making a fairly loud noise because of the water, this quickly awoke me and I was able to disconnect the battery backup and move literally every piece of computer equipment out of the room. This product saved an over $3000 investment, and possibly saved my life. It was the best $80 I ever spent in my entire life. I was able to save 4 computers because of this equipment. At the moment the battery backup useless because of the water damage and I have yet to replace it. But I know that when I buy the next one, for sure it will be a CyberPower battery backup unit"
That was roughly the email that I sent to CyberPower after my house flooded in 2008(?), within a couple of days I got a shipping label from them, they offered to replace my unit free of charge. Amazing product, Amazing company.
cyberpower July 1, 2010 Chas (midwest) Works like it is supposed to. Luckily we haven't had any bad storms so I haven't got to see it in real world action, only the test (but it doesn't skip a beat). The extra spaced plugs are for the regular transformers as I happen to have one that is somewhat larger than normal, therefore, did not allow two transformers to fit side by side like the extra space is supposed to be for. I looked at several of these things when deciding which one to purchase and unfortunately did not pick up on everything there is to know about them, so I was a little disappointed when I received it and discovered that it does not actually come into play until the voltage drops as low as between 90-100 volts. I guess after reading about all the different AVR/UPS, I misread thinking that it would smooth out the voltage closer to the actual utility voltage therefore, being that much easier on electronic equipment. Overall, it is a nice unit and I have kept it as I have found out afterward, the units that do what I had intended to do cost way more than I wanted to spend. It will still be comforting to know I have spike protection and the unit will allow closing down of the computer in an outage.
Poor product with very short lifespan June 14, 2010 J. Farkas (United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this unit for my home computer system about 10 months ago (for $110) to protect against power surges and provide a few minutes of battery backup in case of a power outage in my home office. Over the years I've come to expect less from a product than what's advertised on the box so I never expected this to actually power my system and it's peripherals for a full 30 minutes. However, I also didn't expect this device to completely shut down without warning every time there's a power dip or hiccup! It's worked properly exactly twice, where I was able to take two minutes and shut down the computer in the event of a power loss, running off the stored charge in this unit. Every other instance of a less-than-perfect power situation (not even a power loss mind you) this unit simply shuts down, freezes up, and beeps steadily until I crawl under the desk and cycle the power button. This unit is NOT to be trusted, especially as a main power mgt setup. It lasted barely two months before becoming a rather heavy extension cord awaiting disposal. I've been meaning to purchase a new and proper unit for my small home office for months now but it's been hectic and I keep forgetting about this issue until a sudden loss of work. Since this just happened again, I'm writing this review and heading out to get a real UPC! Good luck to all who roll the dice with this thing.
Decent service for many years. May 25, 2010 thok (Baltimore, MD) Good: worked well for several years
Bad: but then battery life became shorter and shorter until it was just a surge protector
Bottom Line: would recommend again
Summary: I have owned one of these since 2003, and it has done pretty well overall. Four of the eight outlets have battery backup protection, which was perfect for my old gaming rig and 2 external hard drives. But each time I upgraded my computer, more and more power was needed and finally the battery backup built into this unit was not enough for even a few minutes of power during an outage.
As of the last 3 years I only have laptops plugged into it (days of gaming are mostly over now, time for adult life). The corner battery-backed up outlet started behaving erratically, power would fluctuate on and off from it. Then, about a week ago, all four of those battery-backup outlets died. Pretty good service for 6-7 years for something I bought on Black Friday for 35 bucks in 2003. Note: my model says DYNEX instead of CyberPower, but looks EXACTLY the same, down to each crease, ridge and even the anachronistic little serial port.
Greatest Example of False advertising ever Made December 30, 2009 J. Strawbridge (Meridian, MS) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Unless you are supplying backup power to a night light forget this product and buy an APC or Tripplite. Not only is the tech support a bunch of clowns -took 3 days to tell me that this unit is only good as a paper weight- but the product is junk. All I had plugged into the thing was a CPU and it tripped the breaker on a power outage. The CPU was using only half of the available power according to their software and it couldnt even handle that. Tech support's fix buy a different computer. My fix- go elsewhere if you are using it to power a computer, buy it if you are powering a night light. Not to mention their tech support was giggling and laughing the whole time I was on the phone with them, I finally had to talk to another rep because the first one was busy playing.
