 APC BX1000 uses RBC32 cartridge July 12, 2010

I found a website selling both batteries for 32 plus shipping, but when you look at the cost it comes out same as this cartridge. The bonus on this item is the APC battery return, if proper disposal matters to you. I found my screwdriver and removed the screws on the back to look inside and found that was not the battery area. You don't need any tools to remove the battery. You can remove the old battery with your bare hands. The batteries are actually in a cartridge that has a plug on it. You slide down the front panel of the APC unit where the figure of a battery is on front with an arrow. The panel slides off(down) and you see a plug connecting the battery to the unit. Just slide out the cartridge after you unplug it. I understand you can replace the battery while the unit is ON or power is still plugged into the house current (hotswap). I had mine turned off because of the beeping noise bothering me. I would suggest visiting the APC website to see what battery your APC uses if not the BX1000. The RBC32 is used in alot of different size UPS units.

Seems like it's working. Just wanted to post that some of the information in the other reviews is incorrect. This does not come with a return envelope. Instead, it includes a web site that points you to appropriate "disposal facility locations" in your area.

Amazon was very helpful in quickly refunding my money (5 stars for Amazon customer service), but the bottom line is the battery arrived close to dead and should have been checked before being sent out. As such, I would not buy another of these from Amazon.
Maybe I just got a bad one, but keep in mind you will not be able to return this item to Amazon and will have to dispose of it yourself.

Be aware that although the price information claims "this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping", it does in fact not.
After you order, Amazon then tells you it does not qualify because it weighs too much. You will then be charged full shipping costs.

Works great with APC Back-UPS XS 800- no problems. Very easy to install. Very good price at $65.50 w/ free shipping (received order within a couple of days after placing order!). Hope it lasts a few years...
