4 out of 5 stars acer 5315   August 20, 2008

i baught this as a cheap notebook to carry on jobs with me because of the laptop's connectivity options! the laptop contains both a wireless nic and a 10/100 wired card built in plus an old 56k modem!
the acer 5315 looks cheap with its plastic case but, is more durable than it looks! the integrated web cam was more than adequate! my unit came with vista home basic!
crapware abounds on this laptop! i have never seen so much crapware on any computer! it took me 30-40 minutes to remove it all!

their are 2 complaints that i have with this laptop! the first being it's integrated touchpad! it was so sensetive! it would select things by itself and open windows by itself, etc... just from moving your hand anywhere near it! i had to disable it in favor of a usb mouse!

the second problem i had was plugging in usb cables into it's ports was very, very, hard! just make sure you have both hands holding the laptop firmly when you plug things in lest it end up on the floor! i suspect this problem may improve as the laptop ages!

for less than 500.00! you can't really complain about it's performance! i find it has an adequate screen and fairly good perfomance for the price!

1 out of 5 stars Never buy acer - I've had 2 of them - both were dogs   June 24, 2008

First acer I had got a problem with keyboard failing - would work fine in bios but not after loading windows - looked like a software problem but after some research turns out to be an acer hardware problem. Assumed it was just a one off. Bought a 2nd acer (aspire 5315) - spontaneously turns off without warning - no gentle shut down - just turns off - turns out to be a known acer problem with fans not working properly unless you use built in acer epower manager which really slows the machine down. Also on my 2nd acer Adobe Creative Suite 3 wouldn't run on Windows vista home basic - fair enough since I then find out that Adobe obviously thought vista home basic wasn't a fully working OS and never certified it to work on home basic, however when I upgraded to vista professional - it still wouldn't work on the acer. I tried installing Creative Suite 3 on my toshiba (with vista home basic) & it worked fine. Toshiba good. Acer bad.

1 out of 5 stars good laptop ,but doesnt work right all the time   May 17, 2008

I bought the new acer laptop 2days ago.....It seem to be beautiful and sturdy looking laptop till i realized it had problem with the display. It goes blank after 15 min due to the power settings ....but it does not come back even when i move my mouse or short press the power button.I changed the power settings ....but went invain. Now i have no other choice than sending it back to amazon. I really wished it dint have this problem. Even worse is that Acer doesnt even have a reachable phone support. guess i dont have any other choice.
