great system, but customer service does suck September 4, 2008 This system works great. It's faster than my old Toshiba, and the battery lasts 3x as long. The computer has excellent features: it includes a 5-in-1 memory card reader that accepts SD, xD, memory stick, etc...; the dvd-rw drive uses labelfish, which could help with labeling disks (if the correct type are purchased); and there are 4 usb ports, which come in handy.
I love the touchpad (with the scrollbar) and the button placement above the keyboard. The casing feels durable, especially the steel below the keyboard and around the touhpad. It won't rub off like other computers when you rest your wrist upon it. Even the outside of the computer looks nice with the black top - it doesn't smudge and has a rugged feel.
A couple quirks: Vista takes a while to boot, but I liked the features once I got used to them. It also serves as a memory hog on some computers, but this one can definitely handle it. Also, the sound doesn't seem very loud, although it's audible and the computer does accept headphones.
Great Laptop June 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Okay, don't listen to the other reviews the only thing holding this laptop is down is Vista, and the lack of a video card other than that this is a great laptop and gateways customer service is AWESOME.
Gateway customer service is great in WHAT paralell universe? May 18, 2008 We bought a Gateway and Windows got hosed for some reason. We called 1-800-GATEWAY for support. Guess what? If you buy a Gateway anywhere but their website you must call a separate toll number. WTF!? Then we needed to restore it but the restore partition was bad. Had to get the recovery disk. They charged me $20 for a $1 CD-R. Then it wouldn't work, and they wanted to charge me to tell me how to use it. Again WTF? These people are horrible. Save yourself a lot of trouble and get a Mac. Get HP. Get an abacus. Anything but Gateway.
