4 out of 5 stars Great product, but awfull service   July 13, 2008
I purchased my X61 about 8 months ago and had nothing, but a good experience with it. However getting it was another story - new Lenovo owners are going to destroy an excellent brand, if they continue to treat their customers like they treated me. I needed a light, but powerful notebook, and had a lot of good experiences with Lenovo machines in the past. I configured and ordered pc on Lenovo site with extended support and warranty to the tune of over $2,000, and they indicated 2 weeks shipping, which was a week too late for me, but I agreed. However after 2 weeks, they just changed the date on-line without notification to extend the shipping another two weeks. After numerous and not very productive calls to the company, I have canceled my order and recommend buying configuration you can find in stock at a reputable retailer. That what I did.

Love the product - hate the company. I have 2 Lenovo notebooks, but probably will not buy another one from them.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible Customer Service   February 6, 2008

Be prepare for extremely poor customer service. Empty promises after empty promises and they will even hang up on you- the audacity! I'm paying over $1,000 for a laptop; I'm paying these guys good money to hang up on me? It just didn't make sense.

Yes, I like the ThinkPad X61, but I was sure as hell wasn't going to pay over a grand and getting hanged up by a rep.

1 out of 5 stars worst machine I've ever owned   January 8, 2008
1 out of 5 found this review helpful

I've had an X61 since September. In that time my machine has had 2 system crashes, resulting in it spending the majority of the time either at the repair facility, in transit, or in the tedious process of reloading all of my files and software. The technical support people won't tell me what the problem is, so I can only assume it will happen again when it comes back. Aside from that, it has been never been stable. It has been a complete waste of money and waste of time.

4 out of 5 stars Great ultra portable from IBM(Lenovo)   October 18, 2007

Well I was on the market for an ultra portable after owning a bulky Dell Inspiron 6000 (7.5lbs). I was hesitant at first about buying from Lenovo due to alot of quality control issues surfacing after the split from IBM and build dates taking over 30 full days (thinkpads specifically, not thinkcentre desktops). After reading some reviews on some sites, I still decided to take the plunge because of the great price and weight class it fell into. Well I must say that I am very pleased with my decision. The X61 is solidly built and super light ~2.9lbs. My thinkpad is also the 1.8ghz dual core chip w/1gb of RAM. I got the system for $900. The default OS for this machine is unfortunately Windows Vista - this has to be one of the worst MS products (right after Windows ME) out there. You have an option to choose XP Pro, but they charge an extra $79 for that. Pairing Vista with a machine with less than 1gb of RAM is not recommended. Performance is good though, but adding another stick of ram would help it out due to the fact that Vista is a resource hog (waiting for SP1 to improve performance). Wi-fi connectivity is quick and reliable. Screen resolution does leave you aching for more brightness. There is no touchpad - only the classic cool red rubber pointer. Noticed and have read alot of people talking about the cursor drifting alot. I decided to stick with the base 4 cell battery - the 8 cell cylindrical battery sticks out the back. Don't get over 2 hour of life with regular surfing, but that's all I need. Keyboard has good feedback and isn't too meshed together. Has a neat keyboard light that is mounted on the top of the screen hinge that helps lighten up in dark surroundings. Noise level is pretty low, don't have a decibel reader to confirm the exact number. Base does not heat up too much so no lap burns. Also there is no optical drive on this system, although you can get it as an option with the port replicator. Only reason again that I didn't give it 5 stars is due to MS Vista.

5 out of 5 stars Very portable .... Uber battery Stamina !!!   August 8, 2007

i recived Thinkpad X61 last week from this order...
words r not enough to explain how portable and small he is.. i used to use my ferrari 3000 Lmi last 3 years, then i noticed that i need a laptop that had more battery stamina Life and portable, i crossed all over the net to check, i saw the sony laptop ( Single Core solo ) is portable but soo Expansive, that's why i recommend Thinkpad X61, and it will be nice if u buy the ultra base dock with it.. i will get more USB slots and alot of options with a great stereo sound, comon let's face it ... who needs Cd Drive anyway? just use any Cd DVD mount program and ur done ^-^.

that's not a problem, get the Ultra base dock station with Cd drive if u want a cd drive ... or plug ur usb Cd-drive.

to be honest am not interested in cd-drives anymore, i think the USB Sticks or portable harddisks r enough.

i really recommend thinkpad X61 as best laptop for traveling alot or having a portable laptop to ur work with a high Buttery Stamina life About 12 hours or more.
