4 out of 5 stars new phone   November 23, 2008
I have been looking for an inexpensive land line phone with big numbers for a long time, This one is just right, and the caller ID is easy to read. Other reviewers mentioned it was difficult to put the handset back on the base correctly, but having been forewarned, I had no trouble. It would be a good idea to put a caution in the instruction booklet about this problem

3 out of 5 stars LCD display designed for a different angle...   October 29, 2008
I like the big buttons & easy to use design, and like that it will run fine without power (may not get caller-ID w/o power but I don't care about that). What really sucks though is the LCD display when viewed straight on is very dim even when contrast is cranked-- and if you tilt it down the display will go completely blank. Optimum display viewing occurs when the phone is tilted back about 45 degrees, but that isn't ever how I see it. Looking down on it from above and usually the display text is invisible. Contrast doesn't seem to adjust view angle of LCD, just bright-dark so it's really no help. Great phone but with serious flaw.

4 out of 5 stars Position of the detachable bottom stand is CRUCIAL   October 4, 2008

If you look on the back of the phone, the stand portion on the back of the phone can be detached and reversed. It is marked "THIS END UP FOR WALL USE" on one side, and marked "THIS END UP FOR DESK USE" on the other side. Correct placement of this detachable piece is crucial to provide the proper inclination for the handset to fit securely on the cradle. (i.e. for desktop use, the detachable stand covers the battery compartments and will look like the product picture shown on Amazon; for wallmount use, the detachable stand covers the model# & barcode sticker areas). When this is done, there is absolutely no chance of leaving the handset off hook since gravity pulls the handset down snugly on the base. It is also quite difficult to bump the handset off the base in these positions - it fits very securely on the hook. I'm 100% sure that the complaints regarding the "bad angle" for wall-mounting were due to the detachable bottom piece being mistakenly inserted in the "desktop" position, and that the complaints about the handset sliding off the hook when placed on a desk were due to the detachable bottom piece being mistakenly inserted in the "wall-mount" position.

5 out of 5 stars GE Big Button phone   October 3, 2008

A tremendous help! My problems were solved with this phone's large, lighted caller ID screen. All other components of the phone are fine, but the Caller ID screen is great!

2 out of 5 stars Very disappointed   September 27, 2008

Got this phone and was good for first 2-3 months. Then mouthpiece became inactive meaning others could not hear me talking. Talked to Thompson (the manufacturer for GE) and sent the phone, receipt etc per their instructions. 3 months up and still no action from from Thompson. Amazon was kind enough to intervene and refund me the full amount. I am trying to avoid GE phones if Thompson is the manufacturer.
