Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
RangeMax is an advanced Smart MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) technology that uses multiple internal antennas. RangeMax routers constantly survey the network environment for physical barriers and interference and adjust the wireless signal to compensate for these performance blockers. Designed to extend wireless coverage and make the entire home a hot spot, it delivers up to 10 times the wireless coverage of 802.11g.

1 out of 5 stars Do not waste your money!   September 28, 2008

Pros:

1. Price is good.
2. The security is "business grade." The hardware firewall was NAT and SPI, and there was a host of miscellaneous security features.

Cons:
1. The range extension is very limited. Despite the claims, Netgear's own technicians said less than 90 feet in an open area without walls. On this matter, I can verify. My computer was 60 feet away, but the signal had to go through two walls and a floor. The signal was so weak that the internet was not usable.

2 out of 5 stars Does not do what I needed it to do.   September 6, 2008

This product is a victim of improper labeling. It really is a replacement wireless router which sits between the cable or fios router and replaces the wireless. It is NOT a repeater to a range extender in the normal way. My needs were to put something that picks up the existing wireless router's signal and amplifies it. This is what I was led to believe by the product label. After a bit of work it became obvious there were problems. Thanks to the first review on Amazon I realized this was not what I needed. This product may deserve a much higher rating if it was named and labeled in an unambiguous way. So the rating has a lot to do with the fact that it does not do what is was advertised to do.

I suggest manufacturers be very clear on what their products do. Making a sale is not worth getting an angry customer who ends up returning the product.

3 out of 5 stars A good product, but not for my needs...   August 25, 2008

This product was easy to install and offers many powerful features and capabilities. Unfortunately, I purchased it for its advertised capability to act as a repeater for a home wi-fi network and was unable to get it functioning as such (even with Tech Support call into Netgear).

I finally had to return the product, which in itself was a bit of a struggle to work through.
