Works Perfect September 21, 2008 I recently bought this item off Amazon.com for 140$
First off, I made a huge mistake buying it. See, I was looking for a good affordable PDA that could browse the internet, play videos and even play a few games. Instead, however, I received a bulky, boring, PDA with a very slow media player. This item does have the capabilities listed, but they're a hassel to access and even more difficult to use. The media player application is only 1/3 as enjoyable as it should be. See, music does play well on this device, but to access a song you must dig through folders and tiny text. As far as videos go, don't even bother, all of the videos play slow and skip frequently. Music is the only good thing you get out of the multi capable player.
The active sync works well, and the photo viewer works too. But this device suffers from a SEVERE lack of applications. Only one game (boring), no paint shop program, no editing software whatsoever, a very complicated notepad, and no customizable themes! This item is ridiculously boring, it perhaps more boring than the older Ipaq models.
I have yet to use the internet as I am so disappointed with this device that I refuse to spend an additional 60$ on a SD Wifi card, and I don't even know if that will work.
I can't believe I wasted my on money this. I don't recommend it to anybody. Buy food with that money, a weeks worth of groceries is more valuable a beneficial than a cheap electronic.
Excellent Multi-purpose Pocket PC July 4, 2008 I purchased my IPaq RX3115 more than 2 1/2 years ago, and it has been well worth the money I paid for it ($200 on clearance! I didn't know what a good deal I was getting). I had lost a lot of paper planners and notepads, mainly because they were boring and I didn't care about them. It took some convincing, but my wife finally gave in to my claim that I wouldn't lose a planner that was actually fun to have with me. She thought it was just an expensive toy, but it has proven to be extremely versatile and worth the expense.
Here are some things I have managed to use my IPaq for: * Wireless web surfing (more or less - some javascript and Flash pages have major issues). * E-mail - Gmail works well if you bookmark a link to the "html" version of the page instead of the default "mobile" version. * MP3 playing * Pocket Quicken - money management * Python programming - I have version 2.4 installed, but 2.5 is available. * Podcast downloading via wireless internet (I wrote my own Python podcast reciever, but there are now others available). * Blog reading - Google Reader mobile works great * Bible software * Games * Skype (It didn't work very well, but might be useful in an emergency) * Listpro - I keep my schedule as a to-do list * Voice recording * Bluetooth file transfers * Notetaking in Pocket Word (I have a portable keyboard) * Drawing (there's a pretty nifty little paint program included in the Windows directory). * FTP and SSH (for web development) * Document reading using Acrobat Reader * Printing to an HP Laserjet printer
Suggestions: * With a little help from Google, you can find out how to fix the start-up screen so that it looks like a normal Today screen. * Download a program called "Magic Button" to be able easily switch programs and actually close programs (instead of minimizing them). * You will also want to install a program called Total Commander. It includes a much better file explorer, a notepad text editor program, and the ability to work with ZIP files. * Make sure to use the HP Backup software, as the device will at some point inevitably crash. Mine has gone totally dead three times. Removing and reinstalling the battery and then charging on the wall charger a full day, plus a hard reset and then a restore from backup file, revived it all three times. * Also, be sure to purchase an aluminum case for it. I've heard of the screens breaking, but mine has been fine. * If the memory keeps running out on you, be sure to clear the Internet Explorer cache. * Make sure to install all large programs to your storage card instead of main memory. Save main memory for programs you always need on hand, no matter what card is in the slot.
My Ipaq has been reliable, useful, and fun. I love that I can program Python on it, so that if I can't find a program that does what I want, I can probably just write it. In its case it is sturdy. I can access the internet anywhere I can get a wireless signal. And, it's almost three years old, now--who would have thought! When my HP RX3115 finally bites the dust, I intend to buy another RX3115.
ipaq rx 3115 May 24, 2008 My ipaq rx 3115 is just a total package for me as a medical student,it has all i need, the most important is the wiress features which enable me to connect even during rounds in the hospital. I bought a 2GB SD card to expand the volume. I can access my laptop using the ipaq mobile media and copy files from it isnt that cool? it is simply a tight fit.
Everything has some probs this model runs on windows 2003 se software which is kind of old and limited packages. with wi-fi the battery drains alittle fast
Keeps on ticking May 12, 2008 Received this gem 12/04. After accidently being shut in door and destroying internal screen, I broke down and bought a new refurbished same model. This has been the best investment so far. I use it for everything except the Bluetooth, every day, and have not been disappointed yet. It went through the washer about a month ago, and after drying out for about 2 weeks, is up and running like new! Truly a good little machine and would highly recommend it!
great stuff if you know how to use it August 23, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got it 2 years ago and I am still using it and is working perfectly, I bet right now this model is old, so if you are planning to buy a pocket pc, get the new ipaq model, I installed a japanese dictionary with more terms than any book, also I can play age of empires when I am bored, and with the 1 GB memory I got, I also installed the wikipedia for pocket and now I need a 2 GB memory to get the new wikipedia, and of course I can use it as an mp3 player, I really dont know why people trash his money in those ipods, I am just waiting for a new model with phone to buy it, also the pocket had saved my life for many times when I need to use internet and I am in other country , there is always a place to find wifi hotspots and use the msn to get info or help from my friends
