Nice! December 1, 2008 Network is easy to set up and works perfectly. I loved my old Brother Laser printer but using it as a shared printer, it would get lost and had to be reprogrammed. Now, I'm getting the same economical and high quality printing that I expected from a Brother Laser printer but with trouble free networking. Very nice.
great value, great printer December 1, 2008 I bought this printer from the good reviews and great price listed here on Amazon. I was tired of wasting my money on inkjet printers and this seemed to be the solution. In addition, I wanted a wireless printer for my laptop.
I had difficulty setting up the wireless part, so I read a lot of reviews and not being a computer geek most of it was over my head (although I did manage to set up my own network). I am using VISTA.
The EASIEST way to set up wireless is:
1. Forget the manual 2. Go to the brother-usa.com website, click on printers (HL) 3. Go to the FAQ section on the left hand side 4. Follow the directions for setting up wireless without the cable There are directions for both VISTA and XP 5. After following the directions exactly, then get out the CD 6. Install using the printer driver ONLY (everything else is done) 7. Print
I could never figure out what I was doing wrong and under the FAQ directions you have to activate the network card (which is not in the manual). When I did it this way it took 10 minutes to install (including the CD part).
I am so happy I can now print from the living room and the printer is in the office. :)
Did not work on any of my three computers...very poor customer service November 30, 2008
What a disappointment. I was very excited about this printer. A brother laser printer for a hundred bucks? Wow, what a great deal, I thought. I ordered it for printing out labels and shipping invoices for my small business.
I first attempted to set up the printer wirelessly. I followed the directions exactly. No luck. Did not work.
No problem, I thought. I'll just use the USB cable until I have time to troubleshoot the wireless hook up. I set up the printer using the USB cable to my Gateway laptop. Worked great for about a day and then quit working.
No problem, I thought, I'll just hook it up to my Desktop. I again followed the directions exactly, only this time it did not work at all.
I then tried to contact Brother directly, only they were closed. I really would love for this printer to work, and I hate the Idea of returning it. I have been an Amazon customer for years and have ordered hundreds of items and never had a problem.
Alas, if the printer does not work it does not work. What a shame. Now I'm left with the hassle of repacking the printer and shipping it back, not to mention being stuck without a printer with orders to fill.
Overall a disappointment. I see most customers have been happy with theirs, and I truly envy them. Mine though...does not work.
Excellent Value November 30, 2008 Bought this laser printer after growing tired of the endless inkjet replacement cartridge costs. Its a fantastic unit so far I really like it. One tip for wireless setup: download the wireless setup guide from Brother for this unit - its a separate PDF document and its incredibly simple step by step. I am using this printer with two PC laptops (one vista and one XP) and two Macs all wireless no problem. Trust me download the that guide - the directions that come with this printer skip some of the key steps for wireless setup.
troublesome setup November 30, 2008 I bought this printer because it was a good deal, and has both ethernet and wireless network capabilities. The wireless router in use is a Netgear wgr614 v7. It was a little tricky getting first getting the network itself set up. The software package that came with the printer just didn't work. But I fiddled with it for some time, and finally went the manual route and got the router, laptop and printer all wirelessly connected. That done, I then tried again to use the software package that came with the printer to install just the driver for the printer. This time it found everything nicely. So much for "automatic installations"... not errors with testpage attempt but still no print. Finally I uninstalled the whole software package and let Windows XP find the printer and then chose an older generic driver from the the list, Brother HL-P2000. Finally success. I certainly wouldn't call it user friendly to set up. Perhaps it would work a little better with a newer router and laptop IDK. It seems some other had better luck.
