Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This powerful, compact, lightweight 600-dpi color scanner is combined with dynamic software to provide exceptional quality scanning and easy management of documents and photos. The DSmobile 600 is a direct replacement for the DSmobile USB but provides higher resolution, high-speed USB 2.0 interface, and additional software that will enhance and simplify your scanning needs.

Amazon.com Product Description
Weighing in at less than 12 ounces and measuring just 11 inches wide, the Pentax DSmobile lets you carry around all you need to scan everything from a business card to an 8.5 by 14 inch document. The scanner draws power from its USB interface so no clunky AC adapter is needed. Bring it along with you and you can instantly transmit a printed page via email, fax, or the web. The scanner has a hardware optical resolution of 300 dpi and the included OCR software automatically converts the document to editable text.

The scanner uses a Contact Image Sensor (CIS) to achieve its smaller volume and lighter weight, and also requires less power consumption and lower maintenance than a traditional CCD. The DSmobile has few moving parts, which promotes high reliability and nearly maintenance-free operation. It consumes only 0.2 watt of power in standby mode and a maximum of 2.2 watts of power when scanning. The Pentax DSmobile 600 Scanner is compatible with Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. It is backed by a 1-year warranty.

What's in the Box
DSmobile 600 scanner, leather case, 35-inch USB cable, user's manual, instllation guide, software CD, calibration card, and two 5x7-inch photo-scan sleeves.

4 out of 5 stars A satisfied customer so far   November 30, 2008
I have only used the scanner a few times but it works well. Set up was quick and easy (which I like). I like the small size. It takes up no space on my cluttered desk. As with most products, you have to fool around with the settings until you get the image to look like you want it to but this was not a big problem.

3 out of 5 stars Software Falls Short   November 26, 2008
Scanner itself functions OK. A bit of a pain trying to get the scans straight which leads to my biggest complaint. The software that comes with the scanner is really lacking alot of functionality. My flatbed software has the ability to straighten pages that are a little skewed. I have also had alot of issues with the scanned documents being seen as either corrupt or too large by 3rd party software. If I try to convert some of my scanned docs to word docs, I get this error despite the fact that the doc is a standard legal size scan. Worst yet, when I try to fax stuff that I scan with this thing while on the road, my internet faxing service also sees these docs as too large.

Tired of fighting with this so I'll be selling this and going for another brand.

5 out of 5 stars Mac and DSmobile 600 Scanner definate compatible   November 22, 2008
If you have a mac go to http://www.lemkesoft.com/ and download graphic converter for FREE. After you have downloaded it drag and place in the applications folder. Then calibrate the scanner by clicking on capture image which is in your applications folder already. There just follow instructions for calibration. after that you should be set up. The only button on the scanner is of no use to us MAC users. everything will be done with and on your computer. The image is perfect, if its a hand written note you want to scan just make sure you write dark and clearly. Other than that I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Good small scanner, creates great PDF files.   November 13, 2008
Pros: only requires USB cable, no power cable needed. 600dpi setting can be set and it remembers it next time you launch the application. One-time Installation and calibration was easy. Image is displayed as it scans the paper. PDF file created is automatically opened in default application after scan is finished. Quality of scan in PDF file is great. I have not tried other file type outputs.

Cons: File created is saved using a default filename in one particular directory. You can change the filename and directory prior to scanning, but if you close the application, it uses the old default filename/directory names again.

4 out of 5 stars Doesn't work on Vista 64 Bit   November 13, 2008

I jumped the gun on this. I bought it because I saw it's compatible on Vista, but it's not compatible on the 64 bit platform.

I asked the customer service rep at Pentax about this and was told they have no plans on supporting the 64 bit platform.

Otherwise, it worked great when I use to have XP :(
