5 out of 5 stars a thing of beauty   October 24, 2008
A thing of beauty is how I would describe this laptop. I've had little or no problems with it so far. I managed to get the wireless up and going within a few minutes of taking it out of the box. I love the keyboard. I much prefer it to the sticky large keys on my desktop. (I do have small hands). The small screen does take a bit of getting used to but I use the laptop primarily as a wordprocessor. The screen is excellent. On the downside I would say the touchpad is a bit oversensitive and the click buttons are way too stiff. The keyboard itself is biased to the left side so that my right hand is usually pointed to the upper left corner while typing. Another negative is the heat generated by the laptop and the user is warned not to actually place on your lap! (Why call it a laptop then?)Its a concern for me as I live in the tropics and it averages 35C these days. (I don't know what that is in Farhrenheit. Go figure it out my American friends.) I have a CoolPad from my now dead iBook (and Steve Jobs hasn't encouraged me to spend $1200 on a new one and what?! no Firewire!!). Finally, I've managed to get a little less than 6 hrs with the wireless switched off. Its pretty good for me but not near the 7hrs claimed by the manufacturers. One more thing- the audio is crystal sharp! Seems to go hand in hand with the ebony piano finish.

4 out of 5 stars ASUS Minilaptop Review   October 23, 2008
We bought our mini-laptop to use on our travels and it is much better than a regular laptop, easier to get through airport security, much lighter to carry, easy to fit in hotel in-room security safes and it does the basic things we want, i.e., e-mail, search the internet, etc. We are happy with it.

4 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied   October 22, 2008

I've had the eeePC 1000H for about a month now. Did lots of research before buying. Having used it for awhile, I'll say I've gotten no surprises and I'm very satisfied with it. Like others, the right shift key location is a pain, but I don't type that much on it vs. other computers I have. Mostly surf the internet. Videos stream very smoothly. I've loaded several pieces of software, first transferring from CD to a 2GB flash drive, then loading no problem. The battery life is excellent- 6 cell battery is the way to go for the way I use this computer. I don't think I'd want a screen smaller than 10 inch, though. I updated the touchpad driver to the latest version with gestures, and that works pretty well, but precise placement of the cursor can still be tricky for clicking on small buttons and such. Just got a bluetooth mouse to help when I need better control. Had a friend tell me the 1.6 GHz processor may not be speedy enough for video editing, but I've not gotten into that yet, so can't say. It provides a button for overclocking, so maybe that might help. WiFi has worked just fine. Didn't come with a load of crapware, but does come with Microsoft Works and Star Office Suite which is Sun Microsystems version of Office. Works just great. Boots up quickly, runs quietly and relatively cool- no hot legs. For me, I needed XP, but I'd love to try out Ubuntu, also. Thanks for previous reviewers who helped my with my decision.

5 out of 5 stars Drop the heavy Laptop and Pick up an Eee Netbook.   October 21, 2008
If you're looking for a laptop with a built-in CD/DVD drive look elsewhere. If you can live without such a feature because you use the web and SD cards then read on! I really enjoy this Netbook, it's battery lasts for 4 or 5 hours, the sound quality is good through headphones. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work well and the value for money is especially pleasing. I use it with a Sprint mobile broadband card and find I can work anywhere without carrying a cumbersome laptop around. All in all it's great. The one downside is the built-in speakers are too quiet.

5 out of 5 stars This is Great!   October 21, 2008
Our son is globe trotting and selected this computer after a great deal of research. He loves, loves it. So, since we travel, are older and tired of the weight of our old laptop we got one too. Our favorite feature besides the size, weight and price is the built in camera and mic. We audio/visual Skype frequently and find this so easy to use.

A negative? Only one. The Shift key on the right is in the wrong place.
