5 out of 5 stars Best value   October 23, 2008

This model is the best value macbook one could get.

I am using two year old macbook which can go only 2GB. But this can go 4GB RAM which is cheap now. DDR 2 667MHz.

I would recommend to any one.

4 out of 5 stars Hey, At Least It Has FireWire...   October 22, 2008

It's amazing that this little gem still exists in Apple's lineup, what with the new aluminum MacBooks ('MetalBooks') having been unnecessarily stripped of FireWire and increased in price (the old $1500 pricepoint is now $1600).

Not so with this model, a white 'PlasticBook'. FireWire is still there (yay!), the price got cut to $999 AND they threw in a SuperDrive so you can burn DVDs (though to be honest, this last improvement was long overdue).

While it lacks some of the niceties of the new MetalBooks (such as the multitouch trackpad, slightly nicer screen, and improved-but-still-not-great graphics performance), the great (for Apple) price and inclusion of FireWire make this the BEST value in the new MacBook lineup.

And, ironically, the only MacBook that's really suitable for a prosumer any more (that doesn't include the MB Pros, but those start at $2000).

Get one before Apple discontinues it, 'cuz they will, and probably sooner than later.

Great purchase. It's a better buy than comparable Windows based laptops, and you don't have to worry about getting a near obsolete OS (XP) or a somewhat shoddy one (Vista which may soon be succeeded by Windows 7 anyway). Also, that 32-bit versus 64-bit OS issue doesn't come up with Apple's laptops either. I highly recommend it.

These are great computers for collage students and i have used them my self personally. As i have set several up for students going off to collage. They are increadibly fast for budget pcs and have a lot of options unlike the ibooks. The screen is also great for its size obviously bigger is better but its great fora budget one. The only problem i saw so far is my cousins one had a funny power button when you would close the lid it would immidiatley turn it self back on after a full shut down did anyone else have this problem? But other than that i have not seen any problems with these at all. I have 17 inch mackbook pro and thats great no problems at all with that one so i say yes to both depending on your budget.

5 out of 5 stars Another Windows Convert   October 20, 2008

After twenty years of microsoft operating systems, VISTA finally drove me over the edge. This Apple machine is such a delight. While it may not offer all the bells and whistles of a similarly priced Windows machine, what it does have works as its supposed to. Computing on a Mac is everything you'd want from a computer. Ease and reliability without the headaches of that other brand x. I only wish I had converted years ago.
