VAIO SZ750N August 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I found this notebook an execelent choice even before actualy purchasing it. After I started using it my opinion got even better. A real rocket. My only dispointment is the complete impossibility to unlock the WAN network from SPRINT. I took it back to my home country and can not subscribe to a local Cell Phone company data plan without having to use an external modem.
Nice Lappy! But..... August 22, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great laptop! Fast proc, nice Keyboard layout, brilliant screen, great wifi wwan ability, 4lb for a lappy that sports a centrino 2 proc and dvdrw. The bad side? Well the battery has leakage issues, the screen has to be handle with two hands or you risk cracking it. The right shift key placement should be better, I don't mind a smaller arrow key as I sometimes hit the up arrow and miss the shift key altogether. Vista.... I guess I don't need to say too much about this bloated OS system. But my biggest concern is the CRAPWARE! so much stuff that it took a whole day to figure out which needed to be removed and which didn't. In the end I removed everything and reinstalled just the event driver and the webcam drivers and cut my processes in vista from 87 (that's right!) to about 65. Now with 4gb it runs amazing. Best laptop for this size and price. Hardware wise it's on par or even better than a macbook pro which I own for the price except for the fact that it has vista installed, I would rate this better than a macbook pro! Yes I said it!
nice hardware, useless OS and crap ware July 26, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
It is really a shame that such a nice laptop is ruined by Sony's crapware. The first boot experience is the most unpleasant I have had to date. All these trial packages (AOL, McAffee, Sprint WAN and other useless crap) completely ruin the user experience. Just for this reason I would not buy this product. If any of you decide to buy it, do yourselves a favor and format the hard drive and install everything yourselves. Make sure you don't pay the microsoft tax though.
Great July 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I think Sony Vaio are the best notebooks on market. I have chosen SZ because of it's power and mobility. It's great. The only thing I don't feel good about is speed of the hard drive. Well, I was using desktop with Raid 0 before so 5400rpm drive may seem slow :). It's not a bug, it's a feature :).
Severe Touchpad Problem, Ignored by Sony! July 19, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This computer eventually develops a problem with the touchpad that causes the touchpad to operate backwards. For more info, Google "sony vaio touchpad backward." Sony responds to complaints about this problem by insisting that it is a "new" issue, denying that they have had previous complaints, and delaying action while hoping the customer's warranty will run out. Literally hundreds, if not thousands, of customers are experiencing this problem and Sony has no intention of doing anything.
Unless you want to waste a lot of money, avoid this and other Sony notebooks until this issue has been addressed.
