1 out of 5 stars Bogus - Better Deals on Dell.com   March 1, 2006
13 out of 15 found this review helpful

At the time of writing, Dell was offering an Inspiron 1300 through their Small Business unit about $650 with the following specs:

Pentium M 735 (1.7GHz/400MHz FSB), Windows XP Home, 14.1" WXGA display, 512mb DDR2 SDRAM, 40GB HDD, CD-RW/DVD Combo, Wifi.

Not an astounding machine by any stretch, but illustrative at exposing just how misleading, disingenuous, and paltry this "75%" deal is. For shame, Amazon -- this ad is *intended* to mislead people that may not be technically savvy, who would think they're getting a great deal. This is an hostile advertising/marketing tactic, and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

To use this line of reasoning, you could advertise a 3" color television for 90% off, and make it available for $75 -- because, as we all know, they cost over $1100 (inflation adjusted) in 1948.

1 out of 5 stars Very poor price for this older computer   February 16, 2006

This might have been a great computer a few years ago, maybe around this price, but the other reviews are absolutely correct. I love Dell's, but this would probably sell for a few hundred dollars on Ebay. It has a slower processer than anything selling on Dell, lowest amount of RAM at 256, no DVD drive, and running Windows 2000(!?) to give you an idea how current this is. The $2200 original list price on Amazon is ridiculous, as it would buy you the most expensive, cutting edge dual processor, 2.1 ghz 1GB RAM, DVD burner, amazing graphics card, XPS laptop with gold level support. You can get a computer that is twice as fast, half the weight (9.5 lbs?), and with XP starting at $500 right from Dell Brand new, or 15% off if you choose the refurb option from Dell. The super upgraded extended warranty can add about 15-20% of the price of a laptop at Dell. If you're considering buying the extended warranty, you should strongly consider offsetting the cost and buying a refurb. Dell refurbs are quality, you get piece of mind with the warranty, and worse case scenario you're covered no matter what for three years, and have access to US based support with less wait time, all for the price of the same machine, non-refurb, with the standard warranty. Refurb deals are linked on the main Dell page.

1 out of 5 stars Brand New Laptops are Cheaper   February 11, 2006

Don't bother buying this laptop from Amazon. Visit Dell and buy a new one, that is faster, has more RAM, a larger HD, and better graphics for the same price or even less.

The 75% off they are advertising is a joke. Its 75% off the original price from 3 years ago. The price they are offering here is about 75% more than what these laptops go for on eBay.

1 out of 5 stars Why will anyone pay $600 for a Remanufactured PIII ?   January 16, 2006
37 out of 40 found this review helpful

Amazon lists this as 75% off the list price. What is this list price ?. Probably 10 years back ?. Now you can get a new PIV based one by paying little more (or a celeron for this price) with better configuration.

5 out of 5 stars Why Bother?   December 23, 2005

You can get a brand new Dell B130 or B120 for the same price. Why go with a reman when you can get one brand new for the same price?

But if you insist on buying used, Dell is a great company on par with IBM.
