Iomega ScreenPlay TV Link, great product November 19, 2008 Great product. Option to connect any hd storage disk opens opportunity to collect as many movies, tv shows, etc. as you heart desires.
wait for rev2 to come out November 12, 2008 Pros: Cheap, if it recognizes your drive its very good about playing mp3's and photos, in fact it even supported my playlists I had created with winamp. Picture very good on analog tv, at least as good as archos or ipod video players Cons: Does not recognize most of my external drives, and on the few that it does it will not play any videos except for AVI files, as a Mac owner most of my files are MP4, but the unit does not recognize them, and I don't even use the h.264 codec for these. And on the AVI files its hit or miss whether the unit will support the fast forward or reverse features, some files it does, others it doesn't. What is the point of having a remote if it only pauses the playback? There is a support page for this unit online, but while it mentions support for optical SPDIF out there is no instructions on how to use it.
Summary: Wait until this product can handle all FAT volumes, can handle more file types, and gets more codecs for video file support, like its big brother does
Good Idea-but not the best product November 4, 2008 On compatible hard drives, this product is very nice. It will allow you to play the contents of the HD on your TV. It comes with a remote control, which makes it very convenient.
However, it is NOT compatible with any external drive that does not have its own power source (I learned this from their customer support). It would have been nice if they had stated this in their product description.
I had to return as it was not compatible with several of my drives. It did work well with the two Iomega drives that I have, although it did take a few attempts to get it to recognize them each try.
I would say that there are better options out there.
Didnt work November 4, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought one, didnt work so I returned it for a replacement. Second one didnt work either so had to return that one as well. Kept saying there was no drive, even though I tried 3 thumb drives and 2 external hard drives.
Product could be better October 21, 2008 Iomega 34386 ScreenPlay TV Link
When it works, it's great but ... - requires several power on/off; connect/reconnect cycles to recognize my USB drive; literally can take 10-15 minutes to repeat process 20-30 times before drive is recognized - the remote powers the unit ON, but doesn't seem to power OFF during this ON/OFF process, so you need to stand over the unit plugging and unplugging to make it work - IOMEGA as noted by another reviewer provides no doc or online support, so haven't been able to resolve the issue
